Sally Silver is a Brooklyn-based artist and harm reduction advocate. She uses oil paints, syringes, and insulation foam to render family portraits, drawing on themes of addiction, trauma, loss, and memory. Her painting is process-driven and focuses on an exploration of materials. The textured portions of her works result from repeatedly filling syringes with oil paint and injecting the paint into insulation foam, resulting in a simultaneous erosion of the foam and an emergence of the portraits.
